What is the Bookchat Roadshow?

This event is aimed at supporting and encouraging parents and carers to help their children with reading and writing for pleasure.

Why are you doing it?

We believe that parental encouragement can make all the difference to a child’s reading and writing habits and that they too can benefit from being able to help their child more effectively.  Please read for more background to the event.

Do I have to pay to attend?

No. The Roadshow is free to attend.  Hooray!

Do I have to register online?

YES - this is essential for safeguarding requirements at the school. If you turn up without registering online you won't be allowed in to the event.

Who should attend?

Any parent or carer who would like to encourage their children to discover reading and writing for pleasure; nurture children's reading habits with positive support; find out more about brilliant children's books; hear ideas on how to encourage a reading and creative writing habit; support already avid readers with informed ideas on what to read next; help reluctant readers discover the magic of stories and find out the best places for information to support reading and writing!

My child can't read or write yet.

Even if your child hasn't started learning to read or write yet or perhaps they can't read for another reason, we can still give you lots of ideas to help them discover the magic of stories!  Or even if they're a long way from staring school, research has shown an early start with books and reading is the best start!

My child loves reading.

Great! We can give you lots of ideas to help them stay that way as they get older!

My child doesn't like reading or writing.

The Roadshow will give you lots of ideas to encourage even the most reluctant readers and writers.

Do I have to do anything when I'm there?

No - just sit back and be inspired!

How can I get there?

Haywards Heath has good road and rail links to the wider area.

Is there any parking?

No. There is very limited staff parking on the school site. However there is free on street parking in certain roads around the school, with time limits.

My children attend Harlands Primary, can I wait at school for the event to start?

Yes you can wait at the school rather than having to go home and come back!

Do I need any money?

There is a bookstall at the event and there will be opportunities to buy books and have them signed by the authors participating, so you may wish to bring money in order to purchase a book (cash only).
