Amazing Authors in August!
Summer is finally here! In three words, tell us how are you spending your summer this year?!
Pondering, reading, working!
Childhood memories - what was summertime in your childhood like?
LONG! Summer seemed to last for EVER! I wish this was the case now. I was mainly up a tree, making camps or poking around our pond, I loved that pond. We even had newts!
Where would you most like to Get Caught Reading this summer & why?
On a blanket, on the beach in the South Cornwall, with a thermos of tea and the sun please! I can think of a million places, but I do love Cornwall, it's wild and a bit magic. And to be honest, in the sun or driving rain, it's a great spot for reading!
You create amazing characters in your books! Which one would you choose to spend summer with & why?
Well, I feel like I've spent the summer with Pom Pom before, so it would have to be Bear from Where Bear? We could adventure to some new places to see if he fancied a change!
Reading is the ultimate escape! Which book ‘world’ would you escape to for summer & why?
For two summers in a row I have read The Summer Book by Tove Jansson and I love it. The slow and simple life they lead on their island in the gulf of Finland is rather magical. Taking time to appreciate everything around you, looking at it with new (calmer) eyes really appeals. Just pottering really. Or maybe an adventure in Swallows and Amazons. It all stems from those summers poking around the pond I think!
Summer survival - name the three most essential things you take on holiday?
Sun lotion, book, phone. Pretty boring I'm afraid, but by book I mean notebook, sketchbook and books to read, see how I've sneakily stretched my essentials to 5?! And I always over estimate how many I will get through and lug stacks of books about!
Summertime selfie – who would you have a selfie with this summer & why? (Fictional, historical, alive today)
Mary Blair (amazing artist, book creator, Disney collaborator) as I think she would have taken an awesome summer selfie - she had an enviable collection of straw hats. Also that photo would be the precursor to me going full fan girl and grilling her on her work.
Summertime travel – plane, train, automobile or other?
Oh, train please. But I don't mean Southern Rail, as that would be horrible. I'm thinking more Pulman, Orient Express type of thing. Something slow and luxurious across India or something whizzy through Japan.
Inside or outside - best place to be creative in the summer?
Outside for thinking, inside for doing.
Stuck on permanent summer vacation? What three books would you choose to have with you?
The Summer Book - Tove Jansson
The Pursuit of Love - Nancy Mitford
And a big PG Wodehouse Jeeves Collection please!
Oh and can I have them all in paperback please? So it doesn't hurt when they inevitably fall on my face when I nod off!
Thank you for participating - have a great Summer!
