Amazing Authors in August!
We wanted to find out what some of our amazing authors get up to in the summer months! Are they furiously writing their next masterpiece, surfing the seven seas, trekking through the Himalayas or curled up in the sun with a good book? Read on to find out more...
Eve Ainsworth's first Young Adult Novel published by Scholatsic, Seven Days, focused on bullying from the perspective of the bully and the bullied. Seven Days was a huge success, for which Eve was nominated for the CILIP Carnegie Medal 2016 and has won regional awards including the Wandsworth Teen Award and the Dudley Teen Prize. Her second YA Novel, Crush, is equally gripping, looking at the topic of abusive teenage relationships and is told with Eve’s warmth, humour and hope. Eve's third novel is awaited with baited breath!

Summer is finally here! In three words, tell us how are you spending your summer this year?
Kids, books and puppies
Childhood memories - what was summertime in your childhood like?
They always seemed long. I’d be curled up on a sofa with a book in my hand, and the cricket would be on in the background (my Dad and brother would always watch). Even now the sound of cricket makes me think of sunshine and the smell of cut grass. I’d also spend long days in the back garden sitting in the sunshine with my dog, writing stories or going for long walks with my best friend. Summer was always about storytelling and pretending to be somewhere else.
Where would you most like to Get Caught Reading this summer & why?
Either on a beach or by the lake near my house. I love being near water, I find it relaxing and restful. Also if I’m on the beach or by the lake it means the sun is shining!
You create amazing characters in your books! Which one would you choose to spend summer with & why?
Hmm, a good one. I’d like to say Anna in Crush as I think she’d be good company, but it depends where she is in her life (if she’s with Will I’d be annoyed with her). Dan in Crush would be fun – and I bet he’d know all the cool places to go.
Reading is the ultimate escape! Which book ‘world’ would you escape to for summer & why?
Anne of Green Gables for a retreat back to my cosy childhood reads.
Summer survival - name the three most essential things you take on holiday?
Books (any surprise!), notebook and pen and fab sandals.
Summertime selfie – who would you have a selfie with this summer & why? (Fictional, historical, alive today)
David Bowie – I wish.
Summertime travel – train, plane, automobile or other?
We will be driving this year to a little holiday cottage by the sea, I can’t wait.
Inside or outside - best place to be creative in the summer?
Hmm can I say both? My ideas usually bloom while I’m outside, usually in the hammock in my garden – but they develop in the calm, cool conditions of indoors.
Stuck on permanent summer vacation? What three books would you choose to have with you?
Sophia Bennett’s Love Song
Alwyn Hamiton – Rebel of Sands
Soibhan Curham – Moonlight Dreamers
Thank you for participating - have a great summer!
